What is good to know if travelling to Hvar?

Hvar Town is attractive but pricey. To save money on accommodation, stay in private houses. These are handled by local agencies, or you can just turn up off the boat and go to the house of one of the many old ladies who arrive to look for custom. If you’re doing the latter, make sure you ask to look at the room first.
Hvar is the lavender capital of Croatia. If you are here in spring it is growing in the fields so get close to take in the scent of this all-round wonder plant.
The beach is rocky so head to the Pakleni Islands by taxi-boat from the harbour. Lying on the sand is part of a summer holiday, after all.
Hvar harbour is full of yachts and also the place to come for nightlife.
